Privacy Policy

KäpaKohting (also known as "Dog Dates", available at dogdates.app) is a free web app that helps dog owners in Estonia find dog parks, swimming spots, and arrange meetups with other dog owners. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how you can control it.

Information we collect

• Account: your e-mail address and password (stored hashed, never in plain text) or, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic details they share (name and e-mail; with Apple this may be a private relay address).
• Profile and dogs: display name, your dog's name, size, sex, breed, age, avatar or a photo you add, a short description, and co-owners if you share a dog.
• Meetups and activity: meetups you organise or join (park, time, note, dogs coming), "I'm here" check-ins, comments on meetups, friendships and invites, favourite parks, and park tags you agree with (e.g. "Clean", "Friendly crowd").
• Park photos: photos you add to a park, with your name; others see them only after review.
• Notifications: if you turn on push notifications, the device's notification token and your notification preferences; in-app notices are kept on your account.
• Location (optional): if you allow it, your device location is used on the device only, to show distances and the nearest parks. We do not store your location on our servers.
• Error reports: when something fails in the app, a technical report (error message, page address, browser/device type and account ID) so we can fix it.
• Usage statistics: Google Analytics, only if you accept the cookie notice. Without consent no analytics are collected.

A park's "popular times" are computed from meetup counts per weekday and hour – they do not show who was there.

How we use your information

• To run your account and profile, and to let you organise and join meetups and see who else is coming.
• To send notifications (e.g. a new meetup at a favourite park, a friend request, a reminder) according to your preferences.
• For account e-mails (password reset, e-mail verification) and a weekly summary you can switch off at any time.
• To keep the app reliable (error reports) and, with consent, to understand how it is used.
• To keep users safe: blocking and reviewing reports. When you report a user we store the report (reason, description, your and the reported user's account ID); only the admin sees it, and the reported user is not told who sent it.

We do not sell your personal data or use it for advertising.

Sharing with third-party services

We use the following providers to run the app. Each receives only what its function needs:

• Google Firebase / Google Cloud (sign-in, database in Finland, server functions, hosting, push notifications) — Google Privacy Policy
• Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple (only if you choose them) — Apple Privacy Policy
• Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications in the iPhone and Android apps and on the web)
• OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap (map tiles; the service sees your IP address and the map area, and keeps no cookies or user database) — openfreemap.org. As a fallback, MapTiler — MapTiler Privacy Policy
• Open-Meteo (weather forecast; receives only park coordinates, none of your data)
• Google Analytics (only with consent) — Google Privacy Policy

Other users see your profile (name, dog, avatar/photo), the meetups you join and your comments. You can hide your meetup history from others in Settings.

Cookies

We only load Google Analytics cookies after you explicitly accept our cookie banner. You can decline, and the app will function fully without them. Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage.

Your rights

• Access: you can view and edit your profile information at any time in the app's Settings.
• Deletion: you can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time — see our Data Deletion instructions.
• Correction: you can update your name, dog's details, email, and password directly in Settings.

Data retention

We keep your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, dog details, meetups, friendships, photos and comments are removed at once; backups are cleared within 30 days (see the Data Deletion page). Error reports are kept for 30 days, resolved user reports for 180 days and the admin action log for one year, after which they are deleted automatically.

Children

KäpaKohting is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
